Bohemian Rhapsody: “A chillingly beautiful tale” (Lightly sprinkled with spoilers)

Uncategorized

Having returned from my holiday to Indonesia, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that Bohemian Rhapsody was still playing in theatres having been released nearly two months ago. So, with my friends, I booked a session and crossed my fingers. Over past couple of years there have been a handful of movies which I, being a fanboy, would get hyped about and most notably and much to my own discontent I would come out of with a bad feeling in my stomach, The Last Jedi, The Crimes of Grindelwald, Black Panther to name a few. However, after the joyride that was Bohemian Rhapsody, I couldn’t help but revel in the compelling and emotional tale of Freddie Mercury and a little band named Queen.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (Spoiler free)

Mini Reviews

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is the most recent Coen Brothers film and one of the first, that I’ve seen, of a famous director changing mediums to adapt to new viewers. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs ultimately succeeded in doing so, bringing in a new audience by being published on the popular streaming site, Netflix. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a fresh, new and well-made film that is easy to pick up and put down.

Mini Reviews

As soon as the rumour that the Avengers trailer was dropping at 9 AM EST (1 AM over here in Australia) I was prepping myself for a late night. In bed watching the final episode of the Good Place season 3 the clock struck 12:00, and after a quick refresh of the Marvel Entertainment youtube page, my heart took a leap.

It was out

It was here

It was beautiful

So being the geek I am I am here to pick apart and cast my theories and opinions on the trailer.

Late to the Party #2 The Power of the Reverse: Reservoir Dogs and Memento

Late to the Party

In the last month, I have watched two movies which are similar in their storytelling, two movies which although different in plot utilise the same effect to create a powerful plot, Memento and Reservoir Dogs. These two films effectively employ the use of reversing the chain of events which ultimately create a deeper mystery and intrigue. Warning spoilers for Reserviour Dogs not for Memento… Memento’s too confusing to spoil…

Right now I am in a period of watching a variety of films from a variety of directors, and I’m currently finishing up a director’s repertoire which I am going to review and analyse in the future. So, for today whilst I am in this watching period I decided to revisit one of my most beloved film franchises, the MCU. Now the MCU is not in any way a perfect and pristine franchise, It has its bad movies and plot holes but it’s a franchise that has to ability to raise my hairs and give me a sense of hope and passion. So, today I am going to pick apart the 18 film series and reveal my top 5 MCU films.

Late to the Party #1 Scott Pilgrim vs The World

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is one of those movies I had put off for a while, not because I didn’t seem intrested in it (beacuse I was) or because I didn’t like Edgar Wright’s movies (beacue I really love them) it’s beacuse I wanted to read the graphic novels before hand. But due to my libraries ability to only have the first two and the final installment in their shelves I said, “Hey what the heck,” and I watched it. It’s not normal for a movie to instantly join my favourite of all time list, It’s an A-List club and there is a very large and very mean bouncer out the front door, but Scott Pilgrim Vs The World  gained acess to my favourite movies of all time list with no hestiation. I dont know why I hadn’t watched it sooner, everything from the whitty dialougue, the amazing transitions and details caused me to absolutely fall in love with this film. So for the rest of this post I will be focusing on two aspects that I adore about this film, transitions and detail as I believe these two factors caused this movie to be dear to me.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald {Spoilers}

Being the avid Potterhead I am, I was extremely hyped for the release of Fantastic Beasts the Crimes of Grindelwald. As each trailer dropped it was inevitable that my levels of excitement grew to abnormal levels, however concluding the viewing my time turner donned body was left with a taste worst than that of a Polyjuice Potion. The rushed pacing, cramming of plot and lost potential causes me to cringe at the path the ‘Wizarding World’ is headed in.

Me and my journey…

Late to the Party

I am, truly, an aspiring cinophile, this year was really the first year that my love for movies took shape and form in an intense way. For the vast majority of my life I had only watched a variety of movies but for some reason 2018 brought out the little cinophile in me. So, having only begun, I am dedicating a portion of this blog to mini reviews and opinions on the classics, as I experience them for the first time. So subscribe and come along with me on a journey through cinema, from the likes of Tarantino, and Anderson to Kurosawa and Hitchcock. This is my journey…
